Monk Blessed Authentic 108 Lotus Seed Mala Bead Necklace | Yoga Prayer Beads

Natural Lotus Seed Mala for Meditation

Lotus seed beads are a traditional natural material used to make Mala beads and prayer beads. Their light weight and natural texture make them particularly comfortable for handling during Japa meditation, mantra repetition and other forms of contemplative practice.

The traditional 108 bead arrangement provides a simple way to count repetitions without needing to keep track mentally. Move from one bead to the next as you repeat your mantra, prayer or chosen phrase, using the Mala as a physical focus for your practice.

You can also wear the Mala around your neck as a reminder of your meditation practice, spiritual intentions or connection to Buddhist and Indian traditions.

The Meaning of the Lotus Seed Prayer Beads

The lotus has an important place in Buddhist and Hindu traditions. A lotus grows from muddy water before emerging above the surface and opening into a clean and beautiful flower. Because of this, the lotus has long been used as a symbol associated with spiritual development, purity and the movement from difficulty toward awakening.

Lotus Seed Buddhist Prayer Mala Plant
Lotus seed Mala beads provide a natural connection to this symbolism. For many people, wearing or using a Lotus Mala is simply a meaningful reminder of personal practice, growth and the intention to remain focused despite the difficulties of everyday life.

Sacred to the goddess Lakshmi (One who sits on a Lotus) also called Mamalgatta Mala. The Goddess is easily appeased if one uses this rosary for the chanting of Her mantra and She bestows upon him wealth and comforts.

The lotus flower represents the symbol of fortune. It grows in muddy water, and it is this environment that gives forth the flower first and most literal meaning: rising and blooming above the murk to achieve enlightenment. It also resembles the purifying of the spirit which is born into murkiness. It also signifies that those who are working to rise above the muddy waters will need to be faithful followers.

108 Lotus Seed Mala Beads

This Mala contains 108 main beads, the traditional number commonly found in Buddhist and Hindu Mala practice. The beads can be moved individually through the fingers while counting mantras, prayers, breaths or other repetitions during meditation. Different Buddhist and Hindu traditions have different explanations for the significance of 108, so the number does not have one universal meaning. What is consistent is its long-standing use as a practical counting system for Japa and meditation.

Blessed by a Buddhist Monk in Thailand

Each Monk Mala is individually taken to a Buddhist Monk in Thailand for blessing before it is shipped to the customer. This is an important part of what makes Monk Mala different from a conventional online jewellery seller. The blessing does not change the traditional purpose of the Mala. It remains a natural Lotus Seed Mala that can be used for meditation, mantra practice or worn around the neck. For those who value the Buddhist tradition, the Monk blessing provides an additional spiritual connection to the Mala and the living Buddhist tradition in Thailand.  Each Mala also includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

Where the Lotus Seed Mala Comes From

The lotus seed beads used for this Mala come from India, where lotus seed malas have long been produced for religious and spiritual practice. Monk Mala sources these traditional Mala beads and then makes them available as many of our Sak Yant customers come from a Yoga tradition

How to Use Your Lotus Seed Mala

Hold the Mala comfortably in one hand and begin with the bead next to the larger Guru Bead. Repeat your chosen mantra, prayer or phrase, then move to the next bead with your fingers. Continue around the Mala until you reach the Guru Bead again.  The Mala can be used during a dedicated meditation session or incorporated into a daily practice. There is no requirement to use it for a particular length of time. The purpose is simply to provide a physical and traditional way to maintain attention and count repetitions.

The Mala can also be worn as a necklace between meditation sessions. Many people appreciate wearing their Mala because it provides a physical reminder of their intentions and spiritual practice throughout the day.

A Traditional Natural Mala, Not Just a Necklace

Although a Mala can be worn as a necklace, its original purpose is more than decoration. Traditional Mala beads are practical meditation and prayer tools, giving the practitioner something tangible to hold while repeating a mantra, prayer or breath cycle.

The natural Lotus Seed beads give this Mala a simple appearance that reflects its traditional purpose. There are no unnecessary decorative stones or modern fashion elements, making it suitable for anyone looking for a natural Mala for meditation, prayer or mindful practice.
