Monk Blessed Authentic 8mm Teak Wood Buddhist Prayer Bead Necklace

The 8mm bead size gives these Buddhist Prayer Beads a traditional feel while remaining comfortable to hold during meditation. Each Mala contains 108 natural Teak Wood beads and a matching wooden Guru bead. The warm colour and natural grain of the Teak give the Mala a simple, understated appearance that reflects the traditional character of wooden prayer beads.

These are genuine Buddhist Prayer Beads designed primarily for meditation and spiritual practice.

108 Teak Wood Mala Beads

This Mala contains 108 beads, following the traditional structure used for Mala beads in Buddhist and other spiritual traditions. The beads can be moved one at a time through the fingers while repeating a mantra, prayer, or chosen phrase. This provides a simple way to count repetitions without having to keep track mentally.

The 108-bead format is one of the defining features of traditional Mala and Buddhist Prayer Beads.

Teak Wood Meditation Mala

Teak is a particularly meaningful material for a Meditation Mala because of its natural texture and warmth. As you move from bead to bead, the natural surface of the wood provides a consistent tactile sensation. This can become part of your meditation routine, giving you a physical point of attention while repeating a mantra or focusing on your breath.

The simple appearance of the Teak also reflects the traditional Buddhist emphasis on simplicity and a less material-focused way of life.

The Meaning of Teak Wood

Teak Wood Buddhist Prayer beadsTeak has been valued throughout South and Southeast Asia for centuries. It is a strong and durable hardwood with naturally occurring oils that help protect it from moisture and decay. Teak has traditionally been used for temples, houses, furniture, boats, carving, and many other objects intended to last.

For a Buddhist Prayer Bead Mala, Teak provides a natural material with a strong cultural connection to Thailand and the wider Buddhist traditions of Southeast Asia.

Recycled Thai Teak Wood

Thai Teak has become increasingly difficult to obtain from natural forests because of regulations governing the harvesting of mature trees. As a result, Teak used for Mala beads is often recovered from older buildings and structures. The Teak used for these Buddhist Prayer Beads is recycled from old Thai buildings, with old temples being one important source when they are being repaired.

Using reclaimed Teak gives the wood a history of its own. Some people also value the connection that old temple wood has with generations of Buddhist practice. This makes the material particularly meaningful for a Buddhist Prayer Bead Necklace, while also giving an old and valuable wood a new purpose.

Japa Meditation with Buddhist Prayer Beads

These Teak Wood Buddhist Prayer Beads are designed for Japa meditation and mantra practice.  Begin with the bead next to the Guru bead and move one bead through your fingers for each repetition of your chosen mantra or prayer.

Continue around the Mala until you have completed all 108 beads. When you reach the Guru bead, one complete cycle has been finished. If you wish to continue, traditionally you can turn the Mala around and begin another cycle rather than passing directly over the Guru bead.

The Mala provides a simple physical method for counting repetitions while allowing your attention to remain on your practice.

Buddhist Prayer Beads for Mindfulness

Mala beads can also be incorporated into mindfulness and breathing practices. The repetitive movement of the beads provides a tactile point of focus while you concentrate on your breathing, repeat a phrase, or simply observe your thoughts. The natural Teak Wood is pleasant to handle and develops a deeper appearance with regular use, making the Mala something that can become personally familiar over time.

Wooden Guru Bead

This Teak Wood Buddhist Prayer Bead Necklace uses a matching natural Teak Wood Guru bead. The Guru bead marks the end of the traditional 108-bead sequence and provides a natural point at which to pause when completing a cycle. Using a wooden Guru bead keeps the Mala visually consistent, with the Guru bead and all 108 prayer beads made from the same natural Teak Wood.

Blessed by a Buddhist Monk

Each Teak Wood Buddhist Prayer Bead Necklace is blessed by a Buddhist Monk. Monk Mala is based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where we have established relationships with Buddhist Monks. We are able to have our Mala beads blessed before they are sent to customers.

Within Buddhist traditions, blessings can form part of the preparation of meaningful or sacred objects. For many people, a Monk blessing adds an important spiritual connection to their Mala and serves as a reminder of Buddhist practice and personal intention. Each Mala includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

Made in Chiang Mai, Thailand

These Teak Wood Buddhist Prayer Beads are made in Thailand, in Chiang Mai Province. We work with local suppliers and artisans to produce our Mala beads. The finished Mala is then prepared for its Buddhist Monk blessing. Our connection with local Buddhist communities allows us to offer genuine Buddhist Prayer Beads with a direct connection to Thailand.

Teak Wood Buddhist Prayer Bead Necklace

Although these Mala beads are designed primarily for meditation, the approximately 37–40cm hanging length also makes them comfortable to wear around the neck. Wearing Buddhist Prayer Beads can provide a physical reminder of your meditation practice, personal values, and spiritual intentions throughout the day.

The natural Teak Wood, matching Guru bead, and simple cotton tassel create a traditional Buddhist Necklace without unnecessary decoration. Teak is a natural hardwood with distinctive grain and colour.

Individual beads can vary slightly in appearance because they are made from genuine wood rather than a manufactured material. These differences are normal and contribute to the individual character of each Mala. One of the natural characteristics of Teak is that it can become darker with age as its natural oils develop. A well-used Teak Mala can therefore gradually develop a deeper and richer appearance.

An Authentic Teak Wood Buddhist Prayer Bead Mala

The use of recycled Thai Teak, including wood recovered from old buildings and traditional structures, gives these Buddhist Prayer Beads a genuine connection to Thailand’s cultural heritage.
