The 8mm bead size gives this Teak Mala a traditional appearance while keeping it comfortable enough for everyday wear. Each Mala contains 108 Teak Wood beads, a silver Guru bead, and a cotton tassel. The natural wood has a warm, earthy appearance and can become darker with age as the oils in the Teak develop.

Because the beads are made from natural wood, each Teak Mala Beads Necklace has its own subtle variations in colour, grain, and texture.

This Mala contains the traditional 108 beads found in many Buddhist and Hindu Mala traditions. The Meaning of Teak Wood

Teak is a highly valued hardwood native to parts of South and Southeast Asia. It is naturally durable and contains oils that help protect the wood from moisture and decay. Teak has traditionally been used for temples, houses, furniture, boats, carving, and other objects designed to last. For a Mala, the natural qualities of Teak provide a meaningful connection to the forests, temples, and traditional craftsmanship of Southeast Asia.

Recycled Thai Teak Wood

Thai Teak has become increasingly difficult to source from natural forests because of regulations governing the harvesting of mature Teak trees. For this reason, Teak used for Mala beads can be recovered from older buildings and structures. Our Teak Mala beads are made using recycled Thai Teak Wood, including wood from old temples and traditional Teak houses.

Using reclaimed wood gives the Mala an additional connection to Thailand’s architectural and Buddhist heritage. Some traditional beliefs hold that Teak recovered from temples has a special spiritual history because of its association with Buddhist buildings and religious activity. We present this as part of the cultural tradition surrounding the wood rather than as a guaranteed supernatural property.

This Teak Mala is made in Thailand, in Chiang Mai Province. We work with local artisans to produce our Mala beads and support traditional craftsmanship in the region. The finished Mala is then prepared for its Buddhist Monk blessing. Our aim is to provide genuine Mala beads with a real connection to Thailand rather than simply reproducing a Buddhist-inspired design elsewhere.
