This simple wood Buddhist Prayer Bead is used to remind the user of the simple and non material world of spiritual life.  The Buddha spent his first nights of seeking enlightenment sleeping in Teak Forrest’s and this wood is prized for speeding up spirituality.

Teak is a hard wood with rich oils, grown in mixed hardwood forests in Asia. It is particularly valued for its durability and water resistance, and is used for boat building, exterior construction, veneer, furniture, carving, turnings, and other small wood projects around the world. Teak has the wonderful quality of getting darker with age – which of often why many imitations Mala’s are dyed dark to reflect age.

Thai Teak wood is now extremely rare and have government regulations as to the harvesting of wood from it’s natural environment. Many artisans now source their Teak from old buildings (for Mala predominantly old Temples being repaired) as the thought is this centuries old wood has been embedded with the power and blessings of Monks chanting and spiritual activities.
